Dry and Dirty Skin, Rashes and Fever

In class we experimented with rashes and dirty skin, I was particularly interested in doing rashes simply using powder and eyelash glue to create 3D effect. 

I didn't really plan on how it was going to go, for me it was an experiment and it was either going to go good or bad. But I think it went surprisingly well and looks like a real rash although with more time I could of improved a little bit because there's always room for improvement. Luckily, my model had acne based skin and was easy to get the pimples in the skin to create the rash. 

Contemporary Victorian Gothic Hair styles- Inspired by American Horror Story

The things you will need: 

• Curling tongs

• Pintail Comb

• Paddle brush

• Hairspray

• Sectioning clips

• Kirby Grips

Method: 

• Brush through the hair, ensuring that there are no knots. 

• Section the hair with your pintail comb, into a side partin.

• Create two barrel curls going away from the partin on the side that the hair is parted. And about one inch in width and 2 inches in length, secure with kirby grips as it cools.

• Create three barrel curls (curls away from the partin) of the same size, on the other side of the partin,  on top of the head. Secure as they cool. 

• Curl the remaining hair underneath the curls on both side vertically. 

• At the back of the hair, divide into three sections vertically. The middle section should be wider, the same length that the sides curls are. Create curls downwards, horizontally. With the two sections on either side, create curls the run vertically down the back of the head. Secure with grips. 

• Spray with hairspray to hold. 

Dark Eyes and Lips

Most of Gothic Horror Make-Up is based on dark eyes and lips. Everything in horror is dark and gloomy but it can also have a sparkle of beauty and elegance with it. Dark eyes and lips make-up is mostly my favourite and how I would normally do my own make-up. Here are a few different looks that I have created, a red lip is essential!! 

Look 1:

This look was inspiration from a romantic gothic make-up YouTube video that I watched. On my eyes I used grey and silver tones and added eyeliner for that special effect and even underneath the eye to give it more outline and also a simple red lip! 

Look 2: 

The ombré lip is always a winner! I used black eyeliner and red lipstick to create this look.

Look 3: 

Created with browns and gold eyeshadow to give a precision look, no eyeliner used but dark brown eyeshadow used on the lower lashes to give more depth to the eye. Extreme contour on the cheeks finished with a classic dark red lip! 

Creating Estella

In class, we had to evaluate Estella's personality and which way we wanted to go with it. I was in a group of 3 so we decided to split half and half of the face. The split personality that we chose were, evil, devious and mean and on the other side, beauty and grace. I created the evil look, we wanted colour but also darkness, we thought that Estella seemed cold and dark so we chose a colour theme of blue, black and gold...

My Design:

I chose this design to not only fit my Estella personality but to also fit my model...

I was not very pleased with how my Estella went, I decided that I didn't like my Estella design too late. But I will learn from my mistakes! I'm happy that my look does look like my design and resembles it but as I didn't like my design I thought I would do another design to prove to myself that it could be better if I wanted it to be... 

Creating Miss Havisham- Continuity Image.

I'm gutted to say that I wasn't the best prepared doing my Miss Havisham, I totally panicked about it because I didn't understand the full brief but I managed to get through it. It's not to the best of my ability but at that time I tried to get it as close as I wanted it. I used the old age make up technique to create my Miss Havisham and it worked really well on my models face so I was happy. 

Burns

Burns are created by using Gelatine. Gelatine can be bought in various forms, Block Gelatine from Kryolan, Gelatine in a bottle form, and Food Gelatine by Dr.Oetker. You can decide how fresh the burn is, whether it be weeping, old, new, or shiny. 

Health and Safety: 

•Do a heat test before applying to the client.

•Always ask the client if they are allergic to anything. 

•Check for skin conditions/infections. 

•lways sanitise hands before working on someone. 

•Always remove product from the palette with a spatula. 

•Brushes are to be cleaned between clients. 

Method:

• Heat the Gelatine. 

• Using a palette knife, spread over the area of the skin that will be burnt. It is crucial to blend it out on the outside, or you will get harsh lines. 

•Pat the Gelatine using the palette knife. This will grab the Gelatine, and pull it up creating lumps, which is the burn effect. 

• Dry with a hairdryer. 

• Powder the burn,

• Start applying the supra colour, using the depth you already have with the Gelatine. Use the supra colours to enhance this, making the burn seem deep. 

•Fake blood, Pus and Glycerine can now be added to create a weeping blistered burn.

My Design: 

I wanted my Miss Havisham to look old and out of beauty, creating dry and cracked lips, bags and saggy cheeks. The character didn't seem anything more than my idea so I went with it...
